🕊️🌍 Insightful Content and a Peacebuilding Conference

We're delighted to report that our co-founder, Vardon, will speak at the Build Peace conference in Nairobi this weekend. 🇰🇪 🌍 🕊️

Build Peace is where tech meets peacebuilding. As a nonprofit startup building an online platform designed to increase empathy and understanding, we are happy to be part of the digital peacebuilding community. In this newsletter, you'll be introduced to some amazing organizations in that field.

🕊️ Peacebuilding conference & organizations

I'm still in awe of standing in front of Mount Kilimanjaro. Seeing elephants, zebras, and other animals grazing against the backdrop of this unique mountain was breathtaking. Inspired by the beauty of Kenya, I now look forward to connecting with fellow peacebuilders at Build Peace this weekend! 🇰🇪 🌍 🕊️

Build Peace, organized by Build Up, is a global gathering of peacebuilders, policymakers, artists, activists, technologists, and innovators from around the world. 🌐✨

When you look at the program, you see this conference will bring together many inspiring people and organizations. These are the ones making the event possible:

Build Up | Busara Center | PeaceNexus Foundation | Council on Technology and Social Cohesion | Heinrich Böll Stiftung | Knowledge Management Fund | Neely Centre for Ethical Leadership and Decision Making | REINVENT Programme | Social Media 4 Peace (UNESCO) | National Coalition of Freedom of Expression & Content Moderation in Kenya | Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit

One of these organizations, the Neely Centre for Ethical Leadership and Decision Making, recently launched their Design Code for Social Mediawhich we have signed together with a list of organizations and people worth checking out. The Neely Center is also a founding sponsor of the Prosocial Design Network, whose co-founder, John Fallot, we recently featured in our community spotlight:

Meet John Fallot
John is a UX & graphic designer and Co-Founder of the Prosocial Design Network.

The entire program of Build Peace just sounds like heaven to me. In addition to the sessions with localized contexts, I'm especially looking forward to the following three workshops:

Designing Tech to Support Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion

Council on Tech and Social Cohesion (U of Notre Dame, New_Public, Prosocial Design Network, Center for Humane Technology, Toda Peace Institute)

Among other things, we'll collaborate in breakout sessions to explore and enhance the roster of design features that bolster peacebuilding and social cohesion. The insights from this workshop will be added to the Prosocial Design Library.

Advocating for Responsible Tech: A Workshop on Design Governance & Social Cohesion

Council on Tech and Social Cohesion (Integrity Institute, All Tech is Human, Search for Common Ground, Global PeaceTech Hub, and more)

Here, we'll go beyond conventional tech governance that emphasizes privacy and content moderation, look at the fresh concept of "Design Governance," and explore possibilities like taxing tech giants for designs that amplify polarization and incentivizing them to boost social cohesion.

PeaceTech Founders Forum

Conrad Grebel University College / University of Waterloo and swisspeace

This workshop will provide an opportunity for the founders of startups building PeaceTech to connect, reflect, and learn from each other’s experiences. It will be especially valuable for me, and I look forward to learning from other founders!

There are so many fascinating organizations and people from around the world at Build Peace, and I encourage you to browse the program and look up all the session organizers. I'm sure you'll be as inspired by them as I am! 🙌 🌏 🕊️
